COVID-19 Update from EAMC: November 2, 2020

COVID CASES REMAIN FLAT

While zero is the ultimate number of COVID-19 hospitalizations that EAMC officials hope to one day see, remaining under 40 is considered somewhat manageable. Since August 18, EAMC has been under 40 hospitalizations with the exception of October 9 when the COVID census at EAMC was exactly 40. For the past 17 days, EAMC and EAMC-Lanier have combined to have less than 30 patients, including today with 22 patients hospitalized with the virus.

POSITIVITY RATE RISES SLIGHTLY

EAMC’s 528-SICK call center testing numbers for last week show a nominal increase in the positivity rate, bringing an end to the eight straight weeks of decline. The testing site recorded 16 new positive cases out of 269 tests for a positivity rate of 5.9 percent, up from 5.2 percent the previous week. The figures are based on four days of testing as the site was closed on Thursday due to the remnants of Hurricane Zeta passing through the area.

“It was just a matter of time before the downward trend ended since the numbers had gotten pretty low already,” said John Atkinson, EAMC spokesman. “Overall, our area is still doing fairly well. We commend our residents for helping to keep to numbers low.” EAMC remains at the orange visitation level.
